Traffic Coating System

The next evolution in vehicular deck protection.

The DriveDeck system is a polyurea waterproofing solution engineered for both pedestrian and vehicular applications where outstanding weathering, toughness, fast cure times, and solvent resistance are essential.

System components

A multi-layer coating, applied over a concrete deck.

  1. 1
    Concrete deck

Prepared to a CSP-3 surface profile — clean, dry, and sound — before any coating goes down.

  2. 2
    D-Prime — epoxy primer

A two-component, high-performance epoxy primer that creates an optimal bonding surface and acts as an effective vapor retarder, protecting against moisture vapor emissions up to 10 lbs./1,000 sq. ft./24 hrs. in a single application (15 lbs. with a second).

  3. 3
    D-Guard — waterproofing base coat

A solvent-free, non-gassing, two-component polyurea that forms the seamless, monolithic waterproofing heart of the system.

  4. 4
D-Grip — wear course with aggregate

A high-solids, two-component aliphatic polyurea top coat with broadcast aggregate for a durable, slip-resistant, traffic-grade wearing surface.

D-Guard Base Coat

Solvent-free, two-component polyurea waterproofing — the seamless protective core of the system.

  • Elongation (ASTM D412)600%
  • Tensile strength (ASTM D412)2,000 psi
  • Tear resistance (ASTM D1004)250 lbs./in.
  • VOC content (mixed)< 1 g/L
  • Cure time @ 77°F3–5 hrs

D-Grip Top Coat

High-solids aliphatic polyurea wear course with broadcast aggregate for traction and abrasion resistance.

  • Tensile strength (ASTM D412)3,750 psi
  • Tear resistance (ASTM D1004)350 lbs./in.
  • Hardness, Shore A (ASTM D2240)90
  • Softening point (ASTM D-36)240°F

D-Seal — high-movement sealant

A premium joint sealant for the cracks, control joints, and transitions around the system — ±50% joint movement, 100% solids with zero shrinkage, solvent- and isocyanate-free, ultra-low VOC (21.22 g/L), and paintable.

Polyaspartic 87% Solids — clear top coat option

A zero-VOC (clear), non-yellowing aliphatic polyaspartic coating with a 2–4 hour cure, applied up to 14 mils in a single coat — 6,500 psi tensile strength and strong abrasion and chemical resistance.

Two system builds

Specified to the traffic it will carry.

The same core products, built up to match the duty level — per the DriveDeck Application Guidelines.

Light-Duty Pedestrian System

For elevated walkways, balconies, and rooftop pedestrian areas.

  • D-Prime primer8 wet mils
  • D-Guard base coat32 wet mils
  • D-Grip top coat + aggregate16 wet mils
  • Foot traffic after16 hours

Heavy-Duty Pedestrian & Vehicular System

For parking structures, ramps, and traffic-bearing decks.

  • D-Prime primer8 wet mils
  • D-Guard base coat32 wet mils
  • D-Grip intermediate coat + aggregate15 wet mils
  • D-Grip finish coat + aggregate18 wet mils
  • Vehicular traffic after72 hours

Cracks, control joints, transitions, and cove details receive dedicated detail coats and D-Seal treatment before the field coating goes down. Steeper ramps can take larger aggregate for added traction.

Installation

Fast cure. Fewer surprises.

DriveDeck’s two-component chemistry cures by reaction — not by waiting on ambient moisture — for consistent results and quick returns to service.

Prepare

Shotblast to a CSP-3 profile; the deck must be clean, dry, sound, and moisture-tested.

Detail

Treat cracks, joints, and transitions with detail coats and D-Seal high-movement sealant.

Prime & base

D-Prime bonds and blocks vapor; D-Guard builds the seamless waterproofing membrane.

Wear course

D-Grip with broadcast aggregate delivers the finished, slip-resistant traffic surface.

Intercoat: 3–5 hours Foot traffic: 16 hours Vehicular traffic: 72 hours Multiple application steps per day

Installed by licensed contractors to Multicoat’s specifications, with Multicoat technical guidance available throughout. Full procedures are in the Application Guidelines.

Where it’s used

Built for decks that work for a living.

DriveDeck systems are engineered for pedestrian and vehicular traffic decks, parking structures, and the demanding spaces around them:

Parking structures & ramps Vehicular traffic decks Pedestrian walkways Balconies Patio decks Concrete roofs Mechanical room floors

Low-odor chemistry keeps occupied buildings usable during the work — a fit for hospitals, campuses, and dense urban sites.

School play court finished with a light DriveDeck coating and bright painted game lines, with mountains in the background

A coated pedestrian surface in service — seamless, slip-resistant, and UV-stable.
